Over 100,000 assets (e.g., characters, furniture, props, and more) are created during the production of an animated movie. Time is critical, and finding flexible ways to simplify and automate asset creation presents a challenging problem to solve.
In this talk, we introduce a novel approach for assembling the primary building blocks of the animation production pipeline, which is implemented as a reactive microservice. The creation is a dynamic process driven by template documents maintained by different departments. The evaluation of these templates can greatly benefit from the async reactive calling patterns provided by Spring WebFlux and Spring Reactor. We'll share the journey from our legacy creation platform to a fully reactive Spring microservice.
